At twenty to six a baker on the early shift has a quarter of an hour before the bus. At ten to two a bar manager is home, wide awake and nowhere near ready for bed. At a quarter past three a new father is on the sofa with a bottle in one hand and the remote in the other. None of them needs the best IPTV app in the abstract. Each needs a player that does a handful of things at that hour: start a program that aired while they were out, stop on its own if they nod off, show subtitles with the volume low, and reopen last night’s film at the minute they left it.
A player app brings no channels with it; it displays the ones your subscription supplies. So the same Televixy login looks different in two players, and the differences that matter at odd hours are rarely the ones listed on the app store page. What follows: which players your device allows, six features worth checking, how the well-known players handle them, and a short routine for setting one up before you need it.
Your device chooses the shortlist
Before comparing features, cross off what your platform cannot run. Most of the confusion about IPTV apps starts here, not in the settings.
| Platform | Players to look at | How they install |
|---|---|---|
| Fire TV (Fire OS) | TiviMate, IPTV Smarters Pro, VLC | Amazon Appstore, or sideloaded with Downloader |
| Fire TV Stick 4K Select | Only what the Appstore lists for Vega OS | No sideloading |
| Android TV, Google TV | TiviMate, IPTV Smarters Pro, VLC | Google Play, or the developer’s download |
| Apple TV, iPhone, iPad | Smarters Player Lite, iPlayTV, VLC | App Store only |
| Samsung (2022 on) | Smart IPTV, plus other players the store lists | Samsung’s store, Tizen 6.5 or later |
| LG | Smart IPTV, plus other players the store lists | LG Content Store, webOS 3.0 or later |
| Roku | Few, and listings come and go | Roku store only, no sideloading |
Two traps catch a lot of people. TiviMate is Android only: there is no Apple, Samsung, LG or Roku version, and look-alike names in those stores belong to unrelated apps. And on Apple devices the free Smarters app is called Smarters Player Lite, so search for that name rather than Smarters Pro.
Six features to check before the small hours
1. Catch-up you can reach from the guide
If you sleep or work through the evening, this is the feature that matters most. Televixy includes catch-up on the channels that carry it, but the player has to expose it. The arrangement to look for is a guide you can scroll backward, where a program that has already aired opens and plays from its beginning; many players mark those channels with a small icon. Players that support catch-up usually detect it from an Xtream Codes login on their own. With a bare M3U link some do not, which is one good reason to use the Xtream login wherever a player accepts both.
2. A guide that runs on your clock
If the guide says a match began at 21:00 when it really began at 20:00, catch-up turns into guesswork. Players generally take the time from the device, so set the device’s date, time and time zone correctly first. If listings still sit an hour out, look in the player’s settings for an EPG offset or time-shift option and nudge it until a program you know lines up.
3. A sleep timer, or something that does its job
A sleep timer stops playback after a set time, so a film you drift off to does not run until breakfast. VLC’s Android and iPhone apps have one built in. For other players, open the playback menu and look; if your player offers it, it is usually a button or two away. If not, the TV’s own sleep timer does the same job from outside the app, and because it switches the set off, it works whatever is playing.
4. Subtitles and audio tracks
Low volume and subtitles go together at night. On films and series, what you can choose depends on the tracks the file carries; a good player lets you switch between them during playback without leaving the picture. Live channels offer fewer choices, and they vary from channel to channel. Where the player lets you set subtitle size or a background behind the text, try it on the dim screen you will really use.
5. Recording
Catch-up covers what a channel keeps; recording covers what you decide to keep. In TiviMate, recording is part of Premium, together with multi-view and multiple playlists. Recordings take storage, and a stick with little free space fills quickly, so check where the player saves them before you schedule a week of overnight fixtures.
6. Picking up where you stopped
If most of your odd-hour viewing comes from the 120,000+ films and series rather than live channels, the feature to look for is a resume point: open the film the next day and the player offers to continue from 1:12:40. Some players keep a continue-watching row; some only remember within one session. During the trial, play a film for ten minutes, close the app, reopen it and see which kind you have.
How the well-known players handle the night
TiviMate, on Android only
TiviMate is built around live TV. Its guide lays channels out in rows against a timeline, with the current channel still playing in a small window while you browse, and catch-up programs open straight from that grid on channels that carry them. The free version handles a single playlist. Premium adds recording, multi-view and multiple playlists, and favorites and hiding groups are Premium features too, which counts on a list of 25,000+ channels where you will want to tuck most of them away. Paying for Premium happens on your phone, in a companion app named TiviMate Companion, and not in the TV app. It runs on Fire OS sticks (sideloaded), Android TV and Google TV; setup is in the TiviMate guide.
IPTV Smarters Pro, and Smarters Player Lite on Apple
Smarters Pro divides an account into sections for live TV, films, series and catch-up, which suits people who watch more on demand than live in the early hours. It runs on Android devices and, where a TV’s store carries it, on smart TVs; the free Apple edition, for iPhone, iPad and Apple TV, is Smarters Player Lite, whose features are not identical to Pro’s. The guide is plainer than TiviMate’s, but the layout is the same from screen to screen, so the phone you use on a night bus and the TV at home behave alike. The Smarters guide covers the login.
Smart IPTV, for Samsung and LG
Smart IPTV runs on Samsung TVs from 2022 onward (Tizen 6.5 and later) and on LG TVs with webOS 3.0 or later. It has no login screen. Instead it shows the TV’s MAC address, and you enter your M3U link for that address on the app maker’s site, using a phone or a laptop. After a free trial it asks a small one-time fee per TV, which goes to the people who make the app, not to Televixy. Its appeal is that it stays light and quick on TV hardware; for catch-up and subtitle options, check what it does on your model during the trial rather than assuming. The Smart IPTV guide walks through the upload.
iPlayTV, on Apple only
iPlayTV is sold for iPhone, iPad and Apple TV and nowhere else, for a small one-off price. It is the paid alternative to Smarters Player Lite, with its own guide layout, and worth a look if an Apple TV is the screen you use every night. See how it handles catch-up on your own channels during the trial before relying on it for that. The Apple TV and iPhone guide covers both apps.
VLC, everywhere
VLC is not an IPTV player in the full sense: it opens an M3U playlist and plays it, without a program guide or catch-up. What it does well are the quiet-hour basics. You can pick audio and subtitle tracks, and its Android and iPhone apps include a sleep timer. Keep it installed as a quick way to check whether a channel plays at all, and as a fallback for a film at 04:00.
A box’s own player: MyTVOnline and the MAG portal
On a Formuler, MyTVOnline is already installed and accepts Xtream logins and portals, and the box runs Android players such as TiviMate as well. On a MAG, the portal is the player: the guide and catch-up appear the way the portal presents them, and there is nothing to choose. Both are covered in the MAG and Formuler guide.
The same comparison, side by side
| Player | Runs on | Cost | Strong at odd hours | Check first |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| TiviMate | Fire OS, Android TV, Google TV | Free; Premium paid | Guide grid, catch-up from the grid, recording on Premium | Favorites and hiding groups need Premium |
| IPTV Smarters Pro | Android, some smart TVs | Free | Separate films, series and catch-up sections | A plainer guide |
| Smarters Player Lite | iPhone, iPad, Apple TV | Free | The free starting point on Apple | Features differ from Pro |
| Smart IPTV | Samsung 2022 on, LG webOS 3.0 on | One-time fee per TV | Light on TV hardware | Playlist uploaded by MAC address |
| iPlayTV | Apple only | One-off price | A paid option for a nightly Apple TV | Catch-up on your channels |
| VLC | Almost everything | Free | Sleep timer on mobile, track choice | No guide, no catch-up |
Ten minutes of setup that pay off at 3 a.m.
- Enter the account as an Xtream Codes login where the player accepts one, so the guide, catch-up and on-demand sections all arrive together.
- Check the guide’s clock against a channel you know, and correct the offset if the listings sit an hour out.
- Shrink the list. Out of 25,000+ channels you will use a few dozen at night. Mark them as favorites; in TiviMate that, like hiding whole groups, needs Premium.
- Set subtitle and audio preferences in the player’s settings where it has them, so you are not hunting through menus with the volume at two.
- Find the sleep timer in the player, or on the TV, before you need it.
- Pair headphones to the device itself, not to the phone in your pocket, so every app plays through them.
- Test a resume: start a film, stop it, reopen it, and note what the player remembers.
Matching a player to the hour you keep
- Home after a late shift and wanting the evening you missed: TiviMate on a Fire OS or Android device, for catch-up straight from the guide.
- Up before dawn for ten minutes of news, or a match on another continent: whichever player opens fastest on the screen you have, with that channel already in your favorites.
- Night feeds with a baby on one arm: a phone or tablet running Smarters Player Lite or VLC, subtitles on and the sleep timer set.
- Two overnight races at the same time: TiviMate Premium’s multi-view, on a capable device such as a Shield or a Google TV Streamer rather than an old budget stick.
- Mostly films at odd hours: any player with a dependable resume point, checked during the trial.
A Televixy account arrives as a username, password and server address, with an M3U link for players that want one, so every player above can use it, and you can switch between them whenever you like without telling us. The 24-hour trial is the cheapest way to put two of them side by side at the hour you really watch.
Short answers to the follow-up questions
Which IPTV app has a sleep timer?
VLC's Android and iPhone apps have one built in. Other players differ between versions, so check the playback menu. If yours has none, the TV's own sleep timer stops everything from outside the app, whatever happens to be playing.
Can every IPTV app play catch-up?
No. Catch-up has to be offered on that channel by the service and supported by the player. TiviMate and IPTV Smarters Pro open it from an Xtream login; VLC has no catch-up at all. Televixy includes catch-up on the channels that carry it, so check yours during the trial.
What should I use on an Apple TV, since TiviMate is not there?
Smarters Player Lite, which is free, or iPlayTV, which is sold only for Apple devices at a one-off price. Both come from the App Store, the only place an Apple TV can install apps. TiviMate has no Apple version at all, whatever look-alike names suggest.
Do I need TiviMate Premium?
Only for what it adds: recording, multi-view, multiple playlists, favorites and hiding groups. To judge the guide and live channels, the free version is enough. You pay for Premium in a phone app called TiviMate Companion, not inside the TV app.
Why does the guide show programs an hour early or late?
Usually the device's clock or time zone is wrong, or the player is applying an offset. Correct the device's date and time first, then look for an EPG offset or time-shift option in the player and adjust it until a program you know lines up.
Does Smart IPTV work on my Samsung or LG TV?
On Samsung it is in the store for 2022 and later models running Tizen 6.5 or newer. On LG it needs webOS 3.0 or later. It takes an M3U link entered for the TV's MAC address on the app maker's site, and after a trial asks a one-time fee per TV.
