Getting it ready for the hours you watch
Read the model name on the About screen
Open Settings (the gear at the right-hand end of the home row), choose My Fire TV, then About. The top line names the device. If it says Fire TV Stick 4K Select, the rest of this guide does not apply: that model runs Vega OS instead of Fire OS and cannot install apps from outside the Amazon Appstore, so Downloader is no use on it. Search its Appstore for a player that accepts an Xtream login or an M3U link, and if nothing suitable is listed, put the subscription on a different screen. For every other model, stay where you are for the next step.
Press select seven times on the device name
With the name at the top of the About screen highlighted, press the round select button on the remote seven times in a row. A short message confirms that developer mode is now on. Back out one level and Developer Options appears in the My Fire TV menu, where it was hidden before. You will need it again in the fourth step. Nothing else in that menu has to change, and the debugging switches can stay exactly as they are.
Pair the headphones now, while you are in Settings
Put the headphones into pairing mode first; usually that means holding the power or Bluetooth button until a light flashes, and the leaflet in the box will say which. Then go to Settings, Controllers and Bluetooth Devices, Other Bluetooth Devices, and choose Add Bluetooth Devices. Pick the headphones when their name appears. From then on, whenever they are switched on and in range, the stick plays its sound through them and the television speakers stay quiet; switch them off and the sound returns to the television. Doing this before any player exists means the very first channel you open is already silent in the room.
Install Downloader and give it permission
From the home screen, open Find (the magnifying glass) and search for Downloader. The right one has an orange icon and comes from AFTVnews. Install it, open it once and accept the storage request. Now head back into Settings, My Fire TV, Developer Options; under Install unknown apps, switch the Downloader line to On. Older Fire OS builds show a single line called Apps from Unknown Sources instead; switch that on. The permission lets Downloader install a player and changes nothing else on the stick.
Fetch a player with Downloader
Open Downloader, select the address box and type the short link sent in your WhatsApp chat (or the player developer’s own download address) for the player you have picked: IPTV Smarters Pro if you want catch-up on its home screen, TiviMate if you prefer a grid guide. Press Go. The installer opens on its own when the download completes. Choose Install, then Done rather than Open, and accept Downloader’s offer to delete the installer file, which frees space on a small stick. The new app lands in your apps list at the end of the home row; press the menu button (three lines) on its tile to move it nearer the front.
Sign in with your three values
In IPTV Smarters Pro choose Login with Xtream Codes API, give the profile any name, and fill in the username, password and server address. In TiviMate the order is Add playlist, then Xtream codes, then the same three values. Type the server exactly as it was sent, http:// at the start and the port number at the end, and mind the capital letters in the password. The first download of channels and listings takes a minute or two on a stick; later launches go straight to the list.
Learn the catch-up route before you need it
Walk through it once now, while you are fresh, rather than at 04:30 after a long shift. In Smarters, catch-up has its own tile on the home dashboard: choose it, then a channel, then the day and the program. In TiviMate, open the guide, move left on a channel into the hours that have already passed, and pick a program that has aired; when the channel keeps an archive, it plays from the beginning. Catch-up exists on the channels that carry it, not on every channel, so rehearse it on one you really follow.
Set subtitles and a way to stop
Subtitle choices belong to the player. Bring up the playback controls on a film or series and look for the subtitle or track option, which appears when the title carries a subtitle track. The stick’s own caption style sits under Settings, Accessibility, Captions, and raising the text size there helps across a dark bedroom in apps that follow it. For a timed stop, use the player’s sleep timer if your player offers it, or the television’s own sleep timer, which most sets keep somewhere in their settings. To stop by hand, hold the Home button and choose Sleep from the panel that appears.
Darken the picture on the television
The stick supplies the picture; the television decides how bright it looks. With the television’s own remote, choose a darker picture mode (Movie, Cinema or Filmmaker are common names) or turn down the backlight, so the screen does not light the whole room at 02:00. The names vary by brand, so check your model’s settings. If the stick’s remote already powers the television and changes its volume, that is HDMI-CEC at work; it does not reach picture settings, so keep the television remote nearby the first time.
Sorting it out yourself at any hour
The voices arrive a beat after the lips move
Bluetooth adds a short delay, and some headphones add more than others. Many Fire OS versions include an AV Sync Tuning option in the audio settings (Settings, Display and Sounds, Audio) that shifts the sound to meet the picture; open it with the headphones connected and nudge it until speech lines up. If your player has an audio delay setting, that works too. Headphones with a low-latency mode, where the box mentions one, narrow the gap further.
Developer Options never appeared
The seven presses only count on the device name at the top of the About screen, not on the lines below it, so try again with the name highlighted. If the name reads Fire TV Stick 4K Select, nothing will appear, because that Vega OS model has no sideloading to unlock.
Downloader says it is not allowed to install
The Install unknown apps permission is granted app by app. If it went to a browser instead, or was switched on before Downloader existed on the stick, Downloader still lacks it. Go back to Settings, My Fire TV, Developer Options, Install unknown apps and check that the line for Downloader itself says On.
The guide lists last night’s match, but catch-up will not play it
That channel probably keeps no archive. Catch-up runs on the channels that carry it, while the guide lists programs either way. Look for the same event on another channel in the same country group, or ask on WhatsApp which channels in that group carry catch-up; support runs 24/7, so the question can go at the hour it comes up.

Firestick, asked and answered
Can I hear the Firestick through headphones while the television stays silent?
Yes. Once headphones are paired under Controllers and Bluetooth Devices, the stick sends its sound to them whenever they are on and connected, and the television speakers stay quiet. The television never needs Bluetooth of its own, which is why a stick is often the simplest way to turn an older bedroom set into a quiet one.
Does the Fire TV Stick 4K Select work with Televixy?
Only through whatever its own Appstore lists. It runs Vega OS rather than Fire OS, so Developer Options, Downloader and sideloaded players are not available on it. If no player in its Appstore accepts an Xtream login or an M3U link, use an older Fire TV Stick, an Android TV device or the television’s own apps instead.
Which player suits odd-hour viewing on a stick?
IPTV Smarters Pro is free and keeps catch-up one press from its home screen, handy when you mostly watch what aired while you were at work. TiviMate lays the guide out as a grid that is quick to scroll back through; its Premium tier adds recording, multi-view and multiple playlists, and favorites and hidden groups are Premium features too. Both take the same login, so keeping both installed is fine.
Does the Fire TV Stick Lite handle the same setup?
It does. The Lite runs Fire OS, so the seven presses, Downloader and the headphone pairing all work the same way. Its output tops out at 1080p, so 4K channels will play but never in 4K; on a bedroom television that is rarely a loss.
Is there an hour when the channels are unavailable?
No. The 25,000+ live channels run around the clock across 60+ countries and their time zones, and the 120,000+ films and series in the library start whenever you press play. Your plan counts how many screens play at the same moment, never which hours they play.
